July and August are busy in Laguna Beach due to the presence of three famed art festivals - the Sawdust Festival, Festival of Arts, or Art-A-Fair - all of which reside at the mouth of Laguna Canyon Road. Don't miss the world-renowned Pageant of the Masters, where classic works of art come to life. You'll also find a wealth of activities on the Festival of Arts grounds - look for jazz afternoons, docent-led art tours, chef demonstrations from our greatest in town, most of which are free to attend with paid entry to the Festival of Arts.

Explore California's Oldest Museum - The Laguna Art Museum focuses on the cultural heritage of California and the unique history of Laguna Beach. Exhibits California art from the 19th century to the present. Closed Wednesdays. Admission: General: $7; Student and Seniors 60+: $5; Children under 12 and Museum members: Free.

Live music is a big deal to locals in Laguna Beach, and you'll find a great variety of bands playing each week at The Marine Room, Mozambique Restaurant's second-level lounge, and the outdoor theater at The Cliff Restaurant. For great jazz and blues, look for Jazz Wednesdays hosted by Laguna Beach Live!, and check out Mozambique's great live blues nights. Even renowned classical groups and chamber music regularly tour through Laguna Beach, also compliments of Laguna Beach Live!.

Visit the sites that Laguna Beach was founded on in the beginning. This tour goes through historic sites like Hotel Laguna and Old Pottery Place.

Be sure to stop in at the Hotel Laguna, originally a wooden structure built in 1888, and visit the historic Murphy-Smith Bungalow built in 1923 (now the Laguna Beach Historical Society) in downtown Laguna Beach on Ocean Avenue.

You'll find a new (and very animated) Greeter in South Laguna now at the corner of The Old Pottery Place, which is also a historic landmark. This was initially the site of the "Yum Yum Tea Room" in 1936 and expanded to "The Pottery Shack" for the next 66 years. In 2006, the Pottery Shack was reopened as The Old Pottery Place, having been lovingly restored and turned into a bustling block of popular shops and restaurants.

Just a block down the street and on the other side of Coast Highway, you'll see the still-elegant Hotel La Casa del Camino, which was built in 1929 as a seaside retreat for Hollywood celebrities.

Laguna Beach is home to more than 100 galleries and one-of-a-kind shops. The artists' village offers the complete spectrum of fine art in a casual walking environment. Whether you're in the mood to shop for home furnishings, jewelry, surf wear, gifts or just window shop, there are many options including ready-to-wear art and unique designer accessories.

You don't have to be a surfer or skimboarder to be a local on the beaches in Laguna Beach. Most of the residents find some way to get some sand between their toes on a weekly basis (at least). You'll see them running the beaches and various cove stairs, walking their dogs in off hours, and participating in boot camps or Kirk Morgan's well-loved beach volleyball classes. You might even be surprised how many locals you will meet soaking up the sunset (just like a tourist!) or having picnics on the beach, but remember ... most of the residents here were once tourists, too. There's a great appreciation and affinity for this beautiful village of ours, and this is the "vibe" you'll find when you sit and stay awhile in Laguna Beach.

Located just north of Main Beach, Heisler Park not only features breathtaking views of the Pacific but it also provides access to four Laguna beaches, including the popular Main Beach, Rockpile Beach, Diver's Cove and the park's Picnic Beach. Start your stroll at the northern end of this Highway 1 stop and you'll be treated to plenty of grassy spaces, stately palm trees, patches of wildflowers and some beautiful sculpture work as you venture down the park's waterfront pathway.

Heisler Park also features benches, picnic tables and barbecues, making it the perfect spot for an afternoon in the sun. What's more, if you start to feel peckish, the street opposite the park is lined with restaurants.
